The Philippines has thousands of islands with different rainfall patterns. The weather scores on this page use Manila; use the island portraits and city comparison for a more local picture.

The wet season from June to November brings heavy rain and the bulk of the typhoon risk, which is highest from July to October. Some regions, like parts of Mindanao and the eastern seaboard, run on a different rainfall pattern, but for most travellers the dry-season rule holds.

Month matters: January is the first month we’d explore for most of this beach shortlist. October and November need more flexibility. Siargao’s wetter winter pattern is different; open a place and change the month for context.

Stay around Dumaluan or Libaong for a slower beach rhythm, then head to Alona when you want more restaurants and people. This is an established holiday island with quiet corners, rather than a remote escape.

The swimming: Dumaluan has a long sandy shoreline and shallow swimming water. Check the tide and conditions each day. A room advertised as ‘Panglao beachfront’ might be on a very different stretch of coast.
Working from here: Choose the accommodation before committing to a working stay. Ask for a call test from the actual room and backup power for both the router and your workspace. A Wi-Fi amenity alone is not evidence of dependable calls.
Getting around: A scooter makes the quieter beach areas easier to use. Bohol-Panglao Airport is on the island; inland Bohol outings need a separate trip.

The catchThe inexpensive room, the best swimming beach and the strongest connection may be three different locations. Check the exact address and beach access.

Eating well

Local rice meals and grills help keep spending down. Alona has more choice, but eating every meal on the tourist beachfront changes the budget.

Finding company

Dive schools and cafés offer easy ways to meet people. No recurring salsa night or dedicated coliving option is verified in this guide yet.

A good place to build a small routine: breakfast, a coastal ride, a swim, then sunset. San Juan puts cafés and places to stay within reach while the island’s interior offers a change of scene.

The swimming: Pick the actual swimming spot, not just an ocean view. Parts of the coast are shallow or rocky at low tide. Paliton and the San Juan coast are worth exploring, with conditions checked locally.
Working from here: Some properties offer backup power, but this is still a property-by-property decision. Republika advertises a generator and Wi-Fi; that does not establish call quality or overnight uptime.
Getting around: A scooter suits exploring beyond your accommodation. Arrivals commonly involve a ferry and a road transfer, so leave a buffer before an onward flight.

The catchA beautiful waterfront room does not guarantee a sandy swim outside your door. Ask for low-tide photos and test the connection before a long stay.

Eating well

Look for local rice meals and barbecue around town alongside the visitor cafés. Resort and international menus sit in a different price bracket.

Finding company

Small bars and dive operators provide casual company without requiring a nightlife-heavy stay. A regular salsa programme is not verified here.

Best for everyday swimmingStart at Station 3 or Angol for long beach walks and easier swimming. Less compelling for hikes and scooter adventures.

Quieter Station 3

Boracay can be a swimming-and-walking stay rather than a party holiday. Station 3 and Angol are the starting points for a quieter base, with busier restaurants and nightlife farther along White Beach.

The swimming: White Beach is the standout for a long sandy shoreline. Its western side is generally more sheltered during the northeast monsoon, but always check the day’s sea conditions.
Working from here: Book around a tested room connection and a quiet place to take calls. A larger hotel inventory gives you options, not a guarantee that every beachfront room has dependable Wi-Fi.
Getting around: Think beach walks and e-trikes rather than a scooter-and-mountain routine. Caticlan is the nearby mainland gateway, followed by a short boat transfer.

The catchIt is still a popular holiday island. Strong for beach access, weaker for solitude, mountain hikes and a very cheap month right on the water.

Eating well

You have plenty of choice, but the beachfront restaurant routine adds up. Look inland as well as along the sand when comparing meals and rooms.

Finding company

Easy access to company, restaurants and water activities without staying in the busiest stretch. Check current local dance events; no recurring salsa night is verified in this guide.

The swimming: Much of the coast has dark sand or rocky stretches. White Island is an offshore sandbar reached by boat, not a white-sand town where you can rent a room.
Working from here: Playa del Fuego advertises Wi-Fi, but backup power and call stability are not established by its room listing. Verify both before treating a good-value bungalow as a working base.
Getting around: The island lends itself to road exploring, with hikes planned separately. Check current air or ferry connections before linking it to another island.

The catchA stronger fit for hiking than for a long white-sand beach outside the door. Work reliability still needs to be proven at the property.

Eating well

Mix local meals around town with resort dining. If you stay away from the centre, check access to food on a normal workday as well as on outing days.

Santa Fe is the beach base, with a compact centre and a quieter feel than a large resort strip. Pick this for simple days around the shore rather than a packed itinerary.

The swimming: Santa Fe’s sandy coastline is the main draw. Tide and wind still matter; neither a sandbar photo nor a beachfront address guarantees deep, calm swimming all day.
Working from here: Treat reliable calls as something to establish with your host. This guide has not verified a dedicated workspace with backup internet and power in Santa Fe.
Getting around: Scooter outings fit the island better than mountain hiking. The usual route from Cebu involves a road journey to Hagnaya and a ferry to Santa Fe.

The catchA strong beach choice, but a less proven work base. It also involves more travel stages than landing directly on Panglao.

Eating well

Base close enough to Santa Fe’s centre to use local eateries as well as resort restaurants. An isolated room can make every meal a transport decision.

Finding company

A scenic, popular travel hub. Compare town convenience, Corong Corong sunsets and Lio beach access rather than treating them as one interchangeable base.

The swimming: Use Lio or Maremegmeg as beach starting points. A waterfront address in the town or bay is not automatically the swim-out beach in the photos.
Working from here: Before a working stay, establish the exact room connection, backup power and a second place to work. This guide has no independently tested call-ready accommodation here.
Getting around: El Nido has an airport. Arriving through Puerto Princesa adds a substantial road journey; the two are not neighbouring towns.

The catchChoose it for scenery and outings. A cheap waterfront working month requires more checking than a short holiday.

Town offers more choice within walking distance. Remote beach accommodation may leave you relying on one restaurant, so check its menu before choosing a cheap room.

The clearest fit here for someone who wants a social work routine. General Luna is the busy hub; Libertad and Santa Fe offer quieter bases within riding distance. Santa Fe here is on Siargao, not Bantayan.

The swimming: This is a surf destination with reefs and tide-dependent swimming spots. Do not equate an oceanfront room with an easy, calm swimming beach.
Working from here: Coco Space advertises call booths, Starlink plus a backup ISP, and solar plus generator backup. Its listed pass is CA$11/day or CA$165/month. Confirm opening hours and call-booth availability for your schedule.
Getting around: A scooter can connect your room, workspace and surf spots. Staying farther from General Luna buys quiet but adds daily riding.

The catchThe work community is appealing, but calm swimming and winter sunshine are weaker reasons to choose it. November–January is a wetter eastern-coast window.

General Luna has a strong café scene. Local meals and imported-ingredient café menus create very different daily budgets, so compare the meals you would actually eat.

Getting around: Fly to Busuanga and transfer to town. Boats open up the headline sights; a scooter cannot replace those trips.

Before a longer stay

Check the room, not just the island.

For calls: ask for a recent speed test and a short video call from the room at your working hour. Check upload stability, noise, backup internet and whether the router stays powered during an outage.

For swimming: ask what the shore looks like at low tide. Sea view, waterfront and an easy sandy swimming beach are different things.

Boracay, El Nido and Cebu are at their best in the dry season, December to May, with calm, clear water.

Hot and humid, driest and most comfortable from December to April, with the rains arriving by June.

Diving destinations

The dry months bring the calmest seas and best visibility for Tubbataha, Apo Reef and the wreck-diving in Coron.

Manila, Palawan and the Visayas

A night in Manila, a flight to Palawan for El Nido and Coron, then Cebu for Moalboal, a ferry to Bohol and a flight to Siargao to surf. Go in the dry season, December to April. Siargao surfs best from September to November.
